Stage 6: How you can act – some wider thoughts and some ‘local’ action.

You have now seen how you might measure something locally. How might you use this knowledge locally?


  • Try and get such a study for an area near you which has a similar problem.
  • Carry out such an investigation.

Question If your results suggest that there is a need for action, what do you do next?

  • Get the help of a local NGO/Naturalist.
  • Influence the behaviour of others (locals, your friends, yourself).
  • Lobby local government officials.
